Hi gang,

I'm trying to work around an annoying "feature" in iTunes, and I'm wondering if Icecast can help. I added a few streaming radio stations to my iTunes library. I can manually edit the name and genre for each, but each time I play the stream, the name and genre reverts back.

I was hoping to be able to use the follow relay configuration to override the name and genre:

<relay>
 <server>icecast.media.berkeley.edu</server>
 <port>8000</port>
 <mount>/kalx-128.mp3</mount>
 <local-mount>/kalx</local-mount>
 <relay-shoutcast-metadata>0</relay-shoutcast-metadata>
 <on-demand>1</on-demand>   
</relay>

<mount>
 <mount-name>/kalx</mount-name>
 <mp3-metadata-interval>0</mp3-metadata-interval>
 <stream-name>KALX - Berkeley, CA</stream-name>
 <genre>Radio</genre>
</mount>


The stream plays just fine, but it displays the original name and genre. I'm wondering if it's due to the limitation discussed in this thread: http://icecast.imux.net/viewtopic.php?t=5033

Any advice would be appreciated.

The settings should really be handled by the source client, that should have an option for setting the genre field. The icecast settings are really for inactive on-demand relays settings.

I understand. Thanks for the explanation, Karl.

I know this is way outside the scope of this forum, but if any of you clever folks have figured out a way to keep your iTunes genre list nice and clean, please let me know. At the moment, I have "College", "College Radio", "free form" each with only one radio station inside. It's killing my overly-anal sense of organization. Laughing

(Yes, I have emailed Apple, asking them to let users override the embedded tags, but I'm not holding my breath.)
