Icecast Streaming Media Server

I've finally gotten icecast, ices, mpd & mpc working. I can heard the stream in VLC on the local network but not the Internet at large.

ports 8000 and 8001 are open on my router.

any thoughts on what the problem might be?

If it is working on the LAN then it will not be down to an icecast setting. If no connections (even web pages) are not working then it will be blocked by something upstream but whether that is because of a firewall or a NAT I can't say.

If your router supports it, you should be able to "open up" a port from the outside to the inside. Sometimes it's referred to as a port translation, or a port forward depending on your vendor.

yes, my router uses the term 'port forwarding'. i have ports 8000 and 8001 forwarding to the local ip address of computer that icecast is on.

It won't be a binding issue if other LAN machines can connect without problems, nor will it be down to a firewall on the machine running icecast. It has to be down to the forwarding of the external packets and the replies back out. You need to diagnose the state of network traffic if you believe forwarding is set up correctly

I don't mean this to be a dumb question ... but does your IceCast box have the proper default gateway?
