Hello,
In several places on this forum, I read that it was possible to offer some kind of media seeking (next track, pause?) with Icecast 2. I also read that it was possible to stream different formats than Ogg/Theora and Ogg/Vorbis or MP3, with a “passthrough” mechanism. Also, is it possible to stream Ogg media containers with different codecs?
I know that Icecast 2 is designed as a streaming server, not a VoD server, and that most VoD features can simply be implemented with a standard Web server. But playlists cannot, can they?
So, I wonder if these informations are correct, and, if they are, how they can be implemented. Concretely, I mean: I am looking for configuration samples for Icecast 2 and IceS 2 or Ezstream.  |

several codecs are handled in ogg not just theora and vorbis but the codec knowledge is required because you need at least identify the header pages. MP3 is handled via the passthrough part just like aac or nsv is.
playlists are just normal files, icecast does automatically generate m3u/xspf for streams but you can provide your own if you wish by placing it in webroot.

Then, what media types can be handled by Icecast 2? And do you know what client is able to forward them?

| About the seeking thing, I got an answer by IRC, so if someone is interested: on its webroot, Icecast 2 acts as a normal webserver. That is enough for most on demand needs (play, pause, seek, but no fast forward and backward), but adds nothing to what a regular webserver as Apache HTTP would do. |
