At our station we want to move to icecast from QT Streaming Server. Something we'd like to do when we make this move is implement multiple bandwidth streams, since we'll be going up from the 64kbps that QT is limiting us to, up to 128 or so. We'd like to keep a lower bandwidth because wireless is prevalent on the campus and we don't want to max out the wireless network in the dorms, etc.
We are currently streaming with nicecast one stream. How would you guys suggest we broadcast multiple broadcasts at different bitrates of the same source? Is there any trickery with relays or some kind of source running on the server so that we only have to run one source at the station? |

Some source clients (that are icecast2 aware) can produce multiple streams to the same icecast each stream using different encoder settings (eg ices). Another possibility is something like streamtranscoder, eg 96k vorbis to 32k vorbis.

| On http://www.freedomstream.org in the link section was mentioned a sreamserver that seems to be able to do this. |
