Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hi,

i'm using Ices2 + Icecast2 to stream a playlist directly from the server.

Ices2 uses a simple playlist file (a list of file).

Now: i need, for example to stream a registered trasmission at 17.00. I can do this in many ways:

1 Set a cronjob that stops the running ices process and starts another process whit the correct playlist
2 Set a cronjob that simply changes the playlist file (as you suggested in an old post), just whit an "mv".
3 Use the "script" mode and create a script that gives filenames using a timetable

The most simple way is the number 2, but i have some questions:

- If i change the playlist file when a song is being played what does it happen? Will the song normally finish or it will be cutted and the new playlist started?

Yes i know. But i also know that ices2 comes from ices0

Anyway, i'll try it tomorrow.

Now i've experienced another problem: I'm streaming ogg stream from edcast to icecast2. Windows Media Player can't open the stream. Whit mp3 streaming alla work fine.

ices2 was rewritten so the "comes from ices0" relationship is very weak. wmp will need the codecs installed to play.

Have you tried the official stuff from Xiph at http://www.vorbis.com/setup_windows/

Yes, it seems to be working but the sound quality is not the same...

So, i think 'll write down a tutorial explaining howto install vlc media player (for my users is a very difficult thing to do)...

quality is not the same as a vlc install? seems strange unless that codec pack is conflicting with it.

Sound quality is very different and in wmp the playing of the stream stops every 3/4 minutes...
