Hello,

I'm not sure if my question relates to icecast or to ices but here goes. I am using stdinpcm ices to stream to an icecast server, my configuration files are below:

ices.xml

icecast.xml

What I want to setup is a stream that is as-close-to-live as possible. And, like FM/AM radio I would like tuners to be hearing the same thing (or as close as possible) at the same time. No matter when they start the stream.

The problem I am having right now with this configuration is that when I get the stream up and load it up with a winamp player I start from the beginning .. when recording began.. So if I go to another computer a minute later and start up the stream it also starts from the beginning. How do I get a live (or as close as possible) stream with icecast? Am I looking for help with icecast or ices? Is stdinpcm screwy this way?

Thank you

I hope you don't have any caching proxy.
I could once listen part of my stream after I finished, something like last 30 minutes. I used winamp with proxy settings for local ISP.

Nope, no cachine proxy. Its a pretty simple network, and I'm connecting to the stream from internal LAN

There are many factors that add lag to the whole process, as there are various buffers that add latency to the chain. The biggest cause of lag through the chain is the icecast to player feed, which is affected by 2 settings. The first is the burst-size, 0 is lowest setting, and second is the players pre-buffer size (how low this will go depends on the player).

Icecast itself will send vorbis in half-second chunks but ices will send out in 1 second chunks (use <flush-samples> to lower that to 4000 samples in your case).

Yeah this is my issue. Which is fine, I think I had my ices misconfigured before when it would always start streaming from the beginning. Now it is working on about a 30 sec delay with Winamp 5. Think this is because I am only transmitting at 14kbps so it takes awhile for the prebuffer to fill up. Does this make sense?

yes, 14kbps is about 1.75kbytes, if the prebuffer size os 64k then that will be around the 30-35 second lag.
