Hello, I did a search & although I thought I had seen this question asked many times, I can find nothimg on it.

My dj's stream to the server in 128k. And listeners connect to that mountpoint & listen at 128k.
Is there any way I can provide a lower bitrate stream for listeners without the dj having to run 2 streams? I guess Im asking can Icecast re-encode the 128k stream to 64k? Or whatever bitrate I chose?

Thanks

you can use something like the on-connect , or the auth url stream start trigger to initiate a transcoder, likewise use similar scripts to shut the process down afterwards

It would be running 24 hours a day as I would use it for the fallback mount aswell.
I'll look into finding some transcoder software.
Thanks

Would this affect my listener stats though?
I take it that the stream being sent to the transcoder will be counted as one listener, but the people listening on the lower bitrate stream coming from the transcoder will not be detected in the listener stats?

the transcoder will be seen as a listener on the original stream, but listener stats will be available on the transcoded stream as well.
