Does anyone know of any technique for monitoring icecast streams remotely?

Kind of like StreamPatrol, but running on linux?

we use nagios

here is the relevant configuration to monitor icecast:

        use                             generic-service
        host_name                       icecast-srv61
        service_description             ICECAST
        is_volatile                     0
        check_period                    24x7
        max_check_attempts              2
        normal_check_interval           1
        retry_check_interval            1
        contact_groups                  admins
        notification_interval           3
        notification_period             24x7
        notification_options            w,u,c,r
        check_command                   check_tcp!8000
        }


of course you need to firstly correctly configure your nagios.. then define a host and change the above configuration accordingly.
