I'm trying to compile icecast on my ubuntu 8.04 server. I have the source files but I encountered an error.
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
Neither root or my normal user cannot get past it. It will even spit that error out for libshout and darkice.
What could be the problem?

The last error in the config.log will give you the precise failure. My initial guess would be a permission problem.
