Hello

Just for testing and fun i have set up a video stream directly from my tv card.

I used the following to go....

v4l
for the tv card on linux

ffmpeg2theora
to get the input from the tv card and transcode on-fly into ogg theora

oggfwd
to froward it to the icecast server

icecast server
Wink

cortado
is a java applet to look at the theora stream without the need of a video player

finally i got it to work but i have some problems.... Neutral

i used the vlc to test the stream in my lan and after a few seconds the image get freezed and restarts for less seconds than before and gets freezed again and never comes up again.

i can reproduce this and i tried it with vlc on osx and on freebsd.

has anybody had the same problems?

do i just receive the burst and then a little bit and.....?

i tried with the lowest settings of quality i can do:

inputframerate 15
160x128
video quality 1
videobitrate 45

and secondly i have no audio but that does not care me a lot but i whould like to know why.. isn't it included in the theora?

greets

make sure you have the bandwidth to distribute the stream, and note that theora is a video codec so no audio in video, Ogg being the container can contain vorbis and theora.

Also take a look at the machine's load. I had this sort of problem when trying to encode on a machine that wasn't powerful enough. Encoding video on the fly takes alot of umpf.

hello

first of all thank you for your answer.

as i wrote i was testing the stream in my lan so the bandwith shouldn't be the problem.

i just checked the the cpu load and it's about 40% so it should also be ok.

for testing i changed the framerate from 15 to 5 and it worked without stopping... then i stopped the source and restarted later with no changing of the settings and here we go again it has the same problem again.

maybe i should check out a other client for watching...

ok...

i checked again.. and it seems really to be a problem; i don't have enough "horsepower"

the programm effectv consumed too much ressources when i used some effect.

i tried with a amd 1.2Mhz athlon.... that is not enough.

i give some more reports soon but i have a lot to do for the moment.

Have you tried different video settings? Encoding video in realtime is alot to ask of even a fairly new computer.

yes and it really is the problem...

the encoding with ffmpeg2theora is no more a problem i solved it when i took a other pc (1,2Mhz) and it works fine

i also use effectv to have a real time video effect over the input of the tv or webcam.

some effects like matrixtv take a lot of power away... and don't work. with some others i get the stream up.
