hey, i installed icecast 2 and am trying to get it working. i have determined that regardless of what the config file says, i cannot specify a mount point such as "/listen.pls".

i have tried using both oddcast and ezstream. both clients are able to CONNECT and stream TO the server. the mount point appears in the web interface. BUT, clients are unable to connect to the stream!

if i specify the mount point "/stream", it works. if i specify "/stream.pls", it doesn't work. if i specify the mount pount "/foo" it works as well.

what gives?

pls is a playlist format, not a audio stream type.

It it recommeded practice to name the stream with the appropriate extention for the codec type in use, as some listener clients rely on this to work out the format of the stream.

e.g. "/listen.mp3" for an mp3 stream, or "/listen.ogg" for a vorbis stream.

icecast will automatically generate m3u playlists for a defined mountpoint, all the listener needs to do is to add ".m3u" to the request URI.

e.g. for a mount called "/listen.mp3" the user can call "http://server:port/listen.mp3.m3u" and the playlist will be auto generated and served. N.B. this system uses the hostname as defined in the icecast.xml

If you really want to use a pls file, I suggest you create one that contains a reference to your stream e.g. "http://server:port/listen.mp3" and place this file in the icecast server webroot directory. When the user calls "http://server:port/example.pls" they will be served that file.
