I've rigged up a test environment here with an OSS input source that continues to repeat 2 10-second clips over and and over again. The clips have very distinct noises which make them particularly suited for testing advert replacement. I've also written a script that writes out updates to a metadata file and sends a USR1 signal the moment that the clip changes. Without the jingle headers everything is working fantastically. The song info changes at the precise times in the player and there are no buffer issues.
However, when I added the jingle header for one of the clips and set a replacement 10 second clip I started discovering some issues. The stream seems to have to rebuffer frequently in winamp, mplayer and ogg123.
And what's really strange is that the advert replacement often happens later than it's supposed to. I know that it's not because of my script because the metadata switches before the ad swap begins. How can that happen since the jingle header is going along with the song information?
I'm certain that the original jingle and it's replacement are the same duration and both ices and my file are encoded with libaotuv at quality -2 and 44100 sample rate.
I suspect that there might be some timing issues with Icecast? Any ideas? |

are you setting a 10 second jingle for the group that the listener belongs to?, are you using a jingle log to see which file is being inserted and how many listeners are have listened to that file?
