Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hello all, I am a web developer and may potentially be hired by a local radio station to re-develop their entire site and add 24/7 broadcasting. I have never done this before and really just need some advice. I have posted a few questions below:

1. Will this software work for what I need?

2. What type of hardware and/or interfaces will I need to purchase?

3. How stable is this software?

Hi,

Well, for 24/7 broadcasting, icecast server fits perfectly your needs. We already use it for a few years here, without a flaw. It can stream mp3, ogg/vorbis streams at all rates. You even may have many streams at once, say a lofi 64k stream, a classic 128k and a HI-FI 256 k at once.

If you need direct webtransfertfor streaming of on air broadcasting, all you need in your local radio station is an icecast client such as:

1. Traktor or SAM3 Broascadter for Windows
   
2. IDJC or one of numerous other clients on linux boxes
   

You'll also need some hosting company for icecast server, as the more listeners you get, the more bandwith you'll need.

About stability, it mainly relies on underlying operating system. On linux servers, it can run up to one year without bieng rebooted.

This is what I can tell, from a classic user point of view.
