Hi All,

I have tried various players using my IceCast Stream, and have found specifically in Internet Explorer 7, sometimes in 8, that I get a runtime error, and the whole browser crashes.

Does anybody know if there is some setting in IceCast or even the Shoutcast DSP which could be making this happen? In all the other browsers I have tested, it works just fine.

I am planning a test stream to a bunch of people this evening, and would love to have this solved by then. I have 5 hours.

Thanks,
ChildOTK

Please check with registered programs in IE and file explorer, who has registered to .mp3 .m3u and the MIME-Types audio/mpeg (for the audio files) and audio/x-mpegurl in case of .m3u files. Than we should know better what plugin or program the IE tries to manage and/or start.

Myself earned "runtime error" like behaviour as i (in some way) half-way installed the VLC player or had a wrong Quicktime installation. That was the IE tried to start but its long time ago, so i can't remember the solution.

It is using a flash player to play the stream...so technically no program should be starting up.

It I stop the stream, the browser doesnt crash and the functions within the flash player are available. But as soon as it starts playing the stream, it crashes. And I cannot explain why. It is happening on all computers I have tried with IE.

Okay, i'll state it clearly to see if i'm right: You included an flashplayer into the site, that connects directly to the stream. Isn't it?

Okay, so the problem doesn't belong to IE 7 or 8 itself. Its a problem between the player and his runtime environment within the IE.

This leads to just one opinion in my mind: I remember that many (in words: MANY) Flashplayers on the market doesn't play well ALL types and subtypes of audio formats (in clear contrast to standalone players). There are especially restrictions regarding mono/stereo issues, specific bit rates, subtypes of mp3 (intense stereo vs. joint stereo aka mid-side-stereo) and so on.

So two possibilities remain, i think: Playing around with different encodings of the stream to see if stability can be reached with that flashplayer, or - ...change the flashplayer and try other ones... Smile

I have tried different flash players...all the ones I have tried crash IE.

I think it could be related to the bitrate / sample rate. I will just have to play around, else tell all IE users to use FireFox or something Smile

Thanks for your help.
