I'm on Fedora 11. When I ./configure ices-0.4 I get an error "/usr/bin/pkg-config couldn't find libshout. Try adjusting PKG_CONFIG_PATH.""
My system has libshout on it, already compiled. This came from a package from Fedora and is in the location /usr/lib/libshout.so.3.2.0 and has the link of /usr/lib/libshout/so.3 pointing to it. I tried changing PKG_CONFIG_PATH to point to /usr/lib, but this gave me the same message.
I'm not sure which way to go with this. Should I try to get it working with libshout.3.2.0, or should I install libshout.2.2.1. |

Oh wait, these file names are confusing. Yum claims I have libshout-2.2.2.4.fc11.i586 installed already. So that's not libshout-3.2 after all. Hmm. |

Wait, I got it to work. I compiled in the libshout-2.2.0 from the source here on icecast.org, and now it seems to compile. (On to the next problem...) |

Your original problem is very simple. You have libshout installed, but not libshout-devel. A very simple:
Code: |
yum install libshout-devel |
solves nicely your problem.
On recent fedora distros, you may too end up with a nicely compiled ices0, but not working. You midght have to patch ices0 sources if your fedora install is full utf-8. _________________ Epsilon Friends Radio Icecast Radio on CentovaCast admin panel. Icecast hosting |

That makes sense. (I haven't been compiling Unix stuff in about a year or so, so I'm just rusty at it right now.)
In the end, I seem to be doing okay without ices. I have ezstream for streaming ordinary mp3 files. And I installed darkice for streaming my radio scanners. I'm not sure how ices fits into this, but I seem to be able to stream directly from darkice to icecast.
I had a lot of trouble with liveice, which just gave me noise and acted very strange. But, just now I dropped in darkice, and everything works good, what do you know... |
