I followed the beginners guide to getting this stuff started as this is all new to me.

I'm trying to broadcast live audio on my website for 45 minutes each week and I found IceCast. I followed the necessary steps and got no errors or anything on the transmitting computer. I've been streaming for the last hour, but the receiving computer won't connect to the streaming address for some reason.

When I try to listen to the audio on the reciver computer, it switches back and forth between "conntecting" and a "404 Error".

If anyone is able to assist me further, please help.

Thanks in advance,
Racheal

a 404 indicates that the request mountpoint does not exist which tends to indicate that the source keep disconnecting. Check your log files for errors like timeouts. Usually error like these can be isolated quite easily.

I've been pretty busy and haven't been back to check for replies..

I managed to fix the 404 errors, but I ran into another problem all together.
Everything streams like it should until someone tries to listen to the live broadcast. They hear nothing. However, if I pull the stream up on a computer connected to my network, it works fine.

Any ideas on solving this issue?

Sounds like a source issue. What program are you using to encode the live stream?
