Icecast Streaming Media Server

I just installed Icecast with EdCast and they seem to run just fine. When i go http://localhost:8000/stream.ogg I hear the stream, but if I do http://myip:8000/stream.ogg on VLC it says Error and on winaps it's connecting all the time with no connection.

What am I doing wrong?

without knowing the local setup we are just guessing but if myip is private (eg 192.168.x.x) then the problem may be a local firewall or maybe you have specified a bind-address in the xml. If myip is an external address then you may not be able to connect if the router does not send the packets back into your LAN.

myip is the external IP 74..... the firewall was ON but I turned it off. The icecast is in my exceptions list. I am using old wireless router..could that be the problem?

What shall I do?

The router may not bounce packets back in but even if it did I would do that. I suspect you have a 192.168.x.x addresses internally and that is what your icecast is on, you just need to set up port forwarding on the router to allow external connections to get to the internal address.

That should be detailed in the documentation covering the router, you may also find documentation on the web if you search for it. One site that has been mentioned before is http://portforward.com/
