Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hi,

I have ~20 radio stations that are all on seperate VPSes. I'm contemplating moving everything to a single dedicated server.

This month, I served ~83,820 hours of audio at 128kb/s (~4.2TB). I don't think I've had more than 150 listeners at a time.

This is something I'm trying to expand, and I'm wondering if I should get something like the following from 100tb.com:

Xeon 3220, 4 x 2.40GHz
8GB Ram
1000Mbit Dedicated Port
100TB Bandwidth per month
2x500GB harddrives

It would cost ~$60 more than what I'm paying now but I'm expanding pretty steadily. Would this server accommodate significantly more listeners/streams? I want to be absolutely certain before I take the jump.

Thoughts, opinions and all else, very much welcome.


P.S:

As it's a quad core server, will icecast run on a single core - is it okay if it does?

Processor-wise, icecast is not a big factor as it's mainly I/O bound, but it can use one core or all of them. The way 2.3.2 is designed, it will mainly take 1 core per stream so 20 streams will most likely use all the cores

You sound like you'll have plenty of scope to expand on the bandwidth usage but it does depend on what your plans are for expansion of listeners or other services.
