Hi All!
The recent unexpected problem with my icecast server follows :
Some kind of misconfigured web application (chat) at foreign resource
(not sure that is kind of DDOS attack) causes it's clients to download stream's playlist file e.g. :
the stream name is ehr64, so file ehr64.m3u is downloaded.
Code: |
213.102.153.53 - - [15/Jun/2011:19:11:56 +0300] "GET /ehr64.m3u HTTP/1.1" 200 97 "http://85.31.101.166/juicy/chat/themes/default/ffmp3-config.swf" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/12.0.742.100 Safari/534.30" 0 |
Each download is 97 bytes long, is legitimate itself & seems not to produce noticeable load, but access log entry for it is 260 bytes . It takes 15 minutes to fill 10MB log file ;-(.
Am I missing some build-in functionality to exclude writing access log entries based on any kind or pattern (referer in this case).
I tried adding
Code: |
<mount>
<mount-name>/ehr64.m3u</mount-name>
<skip-accesslog>yes</skip-accesslog>
</mount> |
but with no luck ....
Thanks in advance. |

that option is only in the kh tree, if you are on 2.3.2 then that isn't available. You could place those IPs in the ban file but that would affect all connections from that IP which may be an issue for you.

I'm using Icecast 2.3.2-kh21a (btw, serving 3000+ listeners on vps with 512 MB RAM - thanks Karl).
"Banning" clients from accessing server entirely I think is better done through firewall (in progress).
My wish/hope was to get kind of pattern filtering, for entries in log file, that are useless for me... |

That setting was added around kh22 time so you may of missed out on it with that version.
