I have a live feed utilizing Simplecast as the MP3 encoder & IceCast2 as the server. My question is that why is there approx a 7-9 second delay of then the encoder receives the sound in actual time from the source to when it gets broadcasted thru IceCast2 to the designated link & can the delay be decreased anyhow to maybe 1-2 seconds at minimum? Is there anything I should possibly change in configuration file of the server meanwhile I get an average of 15-20 listeners on it per day but may increase over the next few weeks? Also how come for some reason when the encoder picks up the audio & it sends it to IceCast2 to broadcast it on the designated link, it seems to cut off the first 3-4 seconds of the initial audio tranmission.

icecast buffers the signal in order to have enough data in case something happens to the connection.

It is somehow normal. But you can work on reducing the buffering if you need it. Anyway remember it is a radio signal, usually a 10 secs delay wont be noticed by the listeners.. usually.

To reduce the encoder to playback latency, you need to reduce the buffer size used between icecast and the player. The player will have an incoming buffer and a certain amount of that will need to be filled before playback starts, likewise icecast by default sends older stream data to new listeners to fill that buffer quickly. By reducing the icecast burst-size and the players prebuffer size then you will reduce the latency at the cost of reducing the tollerance for network isssues.
