Hello All!.

Ive been a Shoutcast streamer for a long time and I never really looked into Icecast until now.

What would some of the advantages be if I used Icecast in comparison to Shoutcast?

On a direct comparison, the footprint of icecast, cpu/memory is generally lower when scaled up but icecast allows for extra features like multiple streams on the same server/port and authentication, all using existing clients. Certain features can be very specific to some like fall back to a second stream.

in MY opinion, Icecast sounds much BETTER..

Unlike DNAS, Icecast doesn't color the audio by hi-pass-filtering it

(and thus Icecast doesnt remove frequencies below 250 hz as DNAS does)

I love Icecast because both times I've found an issue with it, Karl's fixed it up under 24 hours.

Been using icecast since 2008 for a fun radio station I like to tinker with. Except for "Transmitter" crashes and 3 months down it has been running since Nov 23 2008.

The Multiple streams tied in with the "Fallback" is great! Been working on upping the "Web Pages" you see when you go to the station. Added 7 day 24 hour program schedule pages, pop out player and stuff you would see on a AM/FM station web page.

Use both icecast and three ezstream feeds for the station. Have some custom software that manages the schedules and creates the data files to fill in the schedule.

And know the radio host Leo Laport uses icecast to stream the audio of his shows.
