Hi Kharl,

I've been a months of confronting this issue to centovacast supports, but they keep saying its the Icecast Issue thats why I am now here asking your help on this and it cause me a lot of trouble, can you imagine that I have to clear those multi-instance of Icecast to all my 50 clients in one server alone, and this issue is not only happened on one server but it happened on all my 5 servers(2 dedicated with WHM/cpanel and 3 VPS with webmin) all are using Icecast KH 33, let me explain this to you first.

THE PROBLEM

When I stop the Icecast KH stream from centocavast it shows some error about "unlink problem on the PID file" what happened was the PID(Process ID Number) files has been deleted and the centovacast was not able to read the PID and cannot kill the running Icecast server, they said that some external program or the Icecast itself might delete the PID files. as the result when I start again the stream another instance of Icecast will run using the same configuration settings such as port, mount point and address, this cause the encoder cannot connect to Icecast and any other unexpected effects.

MY QUESTION

1. Why is it that Icecast still continue to start even there is already other instance that uses the port, at least if it fails to start then it will avoid of multiple instance that result unexpected problem.

2. Is it possible that Icecast can delete the file? such as the PID file

COMMENTS:

According to centova developer (Steve B.) the Icecast KH is different from the original Icecast and so its not compatible with centovacast, Yes I know that Icecast KH is far greater than the original Icecast KH but in terms of starting and stoping the stream are there any different between Icecast Kh and original Icecast?

Thanks

Can you please confirm that Icecast was able to create the PID file in the first place?

I think no, the one who created the PID files was centovacast as its reference for killing and stoping the Icecast when needed, but the problem is that Icecast is still continue to run or create a new instance of itself even the port already taken by other instance of another icecast which is very wrong, the Icecast supposed to deny execute when it detect that some other program that already using the port, as an example if I set the icecast configuration to port 80 and apache is running, then it supposed that Icecast will not continue to run because port 80 already used by apache, this is what i am concerned.

Thank you for the comment by the way.

There was a situation where no ports binding would of still allowed for the icecast to run which was a fallout from the reload re-opening ports which the main version never did, but the cause on initial startup should now be fixed, now if there are no ports opened at the start then the server exits. With the current releases there should be no difference in the way that KH starts to 2.3.x

I've not had any contact from any centova people for any issue on either the KH build or to trunk release, both of which I've been involved with.

karl.
