I am running IceCast 2.3.3-kh2 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have a streaming client that has tried to connect to my IceCast server with two PCs. They are using Edcast Standalone as the source client on Windows 7. All settings in Edcast are identical to other functioning client streaming PCs. When they try to connect to the streaming server, the following error is logged in IceCast KH's error.log file:

I'm trying to figure out exactly what this means. I can connect to the server on my Windows 7 test PC using the exact same settings and mount point. So, all things being equal, the only difference between my other clients and this one client appears to be the network. Especially suspicious is that two Windows PCs on the same network have the same issue. Perhaps there's some standard software installed on both those PCs that I'm not aware of which is causing problems, but I'm having my client take the PC off of the existing network and trying it on a different one.
In the mean time, is there any possibility that there could be traffic blocked that would not allow the mount to be created, but would allow the admin_mount_request to get through? Am I making any sense? =)
The listening port for my IceCast server is 80, which I do to reduce the likelihood of my clients having their outbound traffic blocked on an unusual port. |

that particular error is just that an admin command is done, typical the metadata update, and the mount provided is not one that is being streamed on currently. This usually occurs because a source client has done a metadata update request but hasn't yet managed to get the stream going.
I'm not able to test win32 that easily currently, in a couple of weeks I should be in a better position to try it out, as it's not a primary platform.

Thanks for the insight! I could set you up with access to a Windows machine in my rack if that would be helpful. Server 2012 would actually be the license I'd have to use. Not sure if my partner status gives me '08 anymore. (Yes, I'd prefer to run IceCast on Linux, but this one client of mine uses Windows mostly, so gotta roll with the punches.)
Anyway, I did not hear back from this client's client, however I did notice that their mountpoint was streaming to the server from a remote location (sporting event) so I'm going to assume that it was some firewall issue at the office they were testing on. After close to 100 client setups, this is the first that anything like this has happened. |
