Hi there,

I have an icecasts server up and running on our lan server, it gets fed by mpd or live sources. everything is working fine, thank you for this great piece of software!
now I want to stream to the outside world as well. the streams have to go to another network card - that's okay, since icecast binds to all available interfaces by default. now the problem is that our server is known by the name "t6server" to our lan, while it is just 104.61.79.20 to the wan. the latter ip gets translated to 192.168.1.20 by our firewall.

is it possible to put multiple <hostname> inside different <listen-socket> directives, something like
Code:

<listen-socket>
 <port>8000</port>
 <bind-address>192.168.2.2</bind-address>
 <hostname>t6server</hostname>
</listen socket>

for the lan vs.
Code:

<listen-socket>
 <port>8000</port>
 <bind-address>192.168.1.20</bind-address>
 <hostname>104.61.79.20</hostname>
</listen socket>

for the internet? or do I have to run two different instances of icecast? how would the latter solution fare in terms of performance?

thank you very much for your answers,
thoralf.

That idea may prove useful in some corner cases, but with 2.3.x, icecast will use the name in the host header if supplied by the player (most do) so for m3u expansion it should just work. You can of course write customized m3u/pls files that will work as well.

hi karl,

thank you for your answer ...

unfortunately, i'm still on 2.2.0 (debian sarge). are there any more recent .debs around somewhere?
if not, would the above work in my case? I've only seen the <hostname>blabla</hostname> statement outside of <listen-socket>s so far ...

thanks,
thoralf.

mhmm, didn't manage to get this working either: in the downloaded m3u, the server address still appears as specified in icecast.xml. i'm pretty much out of ideas here ... i can configure icecast so that it will either serve the outside world xor our lan, bot not both Sad

how should the config file look like if I compiled 2.3.1 by myself?

thank you for your help,
thoralf.

we can't really do much about debian, but you should be able to get a newer version if look at the other package repositories (unstable?) and yes you can build icecast yourself and you should find that your existing xml will work.

thanks again.

trying to compile icecast fails on sarge:

Quote:
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../.. -I./.. -pthread -g -O2 -c avl.c -MT libiceavl_la-avl.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/libiceavl_la-avl.TPlo -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/libiceavl_la-avl.o
avl.c: In function `avl_insert':
avl.c:268: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

the default compiler on sarge is gcc 3.3 - has anyone build icecast successfully with this compiler?

getting the package from unstable is not an option in this case - i would probably have to upgrade the whole system (well, libc at least). This is something i cannot do, since it is a rather specialised one (running ipcop in uml etc.).

is there anything i can do?

thank you,
thoralf.

I don't think that has been reported before, if there are no updates to gcc for the compiler crash then your options are limited.

now this is strange: compiling icecast did work out fine after a make clean and yet another ./configure . hopefully that server isn't dying ...

it's working fine now, thanks a lot for your help!

is there a list somewhere with client's that send the necessary host headers?

thanks,
thoralf.

I don't think anyone has compiled a list of those players, I only know of a problem if you drop an m3u link into winamp (the port is missed off), however 2.3.1 does allow for m3u files to override the automatically generated one.

works fine here, with both 5.094 and 2.80. that's opening those links from a website via a browser, not drag&n&dropping them.

with kind regards,
thoralf.
