Hello guys,

1st of all, sorry for my very bad english Very Happy I'm older and no practice in the last 30 Years. Therefore I ask for your Pardon.

Well, now the Problem discription

I'm running icecast 2.3.1 and ices0.4 on a OpenSuse 10.1 and it works very fine. Actually I'm a Newbee in the Linux Scene but it was easy to install and configure the Icecast and Ices0.4 also the Playlist thing .. absolutely easy and it works from the first moment on perfect.

so far so good.

Now i'd like to do an step forward and bring multiple Playlists with multiple Kind of Music in my Day and Night Sourcestream if no live dj working

I'd seams to be ain't heavy to whrite a few shellsripts stop ices - change Playlist - start ices again..... per cronjob

But in the meenwhile the listeners will disconnect from the Stream... and this is my problem..

I read somewhere somewhat over <fallback-force> or in such a way a Option witch will keep my listeners - if shellscript stop-and start ices on Stream ...

Please would You explain that to me?

I thank you in advance

Yours sincerely

If all you are concerned with is changing the playlist then you can do that within ices, just update the playlist that ices refers to and it should reread it when the next entry is wanted.

hi karlH, nice German mailname Wink

thank's for your very fast support!

I changed the Playlist .. how you whrote it....

Now Ices runs over one Hour on and on with the old Playlist.. after 45 Minutes i gave it the -HUP order.. but nothing happens.... until now.

How many Track .. read Ices on one time? the whole Playlist? When usaly comes the next reread?

You must understand, i'm a german and we like to be - lat me named it .."just in Time"

I have a little webradio and a Transmission Plan for the Listeners...

I need a little more controll about the time when Ices change the Music Style....what about the first that i wrothe the Plan with the fallback-fource and the Stop --Copy Playlist and Start Ices?

Please karlH help me..

Please would You explain that to me?

I thank you in advance

Yours sincerely

ices 0.4 reads the whole playlist (it does that because you could ask for random ordering). It will retrieve the next filename when the current file has finished playing. The docs for ices say
"SIGHUP Causes ices to close and reopen the log file and the playlist."

O Ja I read also... but it won't work.. ok - I'm a Newbee in Cause of Linux and Icecast (ices) but I try everything to become Info and Knowledge

"killall -HUP ices" does not have influence on the process Ices keeps the old Playlist

I must terminate and again start Ices, then it plays the new Playlist...but that disconnect all Listener from Icecast.

I must find a solution to change the Playliste and run them just in Time without the listeners to lose.

I read somewhere somewhat over <fallback-force> or in such a way a Option witch will keep my listeners - if shellscript stop-and start ices - on Stream ... is there such a option? If no /mountpoint is activ - keep the Listener for a short time on a "wait a minute.mp3" or something like this.. til ices starts again?

I mean karlH - if you it not know who else? Is there no possibility to keep the Listener on Stream (Icecast) if i terminate Ices?

I thank you for your attempt me to help

sorry again karl for my english

Yours sincerely

fallback-mount is probably what you are referring to, fallback-force is not an icecast or ices setting. Many people are using HUP to trigger reread events, I also believe that the mtime timestamp is also checked so that is the playlist is modified then it will also trigger a reread. Obviously without a log or conf details it's hard to be specific.
