Karl,
My image didn't have strace installed either. When I went home for lunch I build a new image from my exist image with strace installed. I will reflash it tonight and run brec with strace.
I believe I have read that alsa is broke in the version of gumstix build I am using so that is out, at least for the time being.

Karl,
I have produced a trace file for brec and ices. After installing my new image, ices still fails to produce nothing but silence. Please see the links below:
EDIT: Sent links in PM.
Please let me know if you have trouble accessing my server.
Thanks again for your help.

Nothing wrong showing up really. The read calls are working although the audio it receives does not look to be silence (all zeros) but could be near silence. Maybe you send me the link to hear the stream myself.

Im having this same issue on a Fedora Core 4/Dell install.
The rec command records only silence. However, if you plug a speaker into the speaker output, the audio comes out. I am feeding a live scanner into the sound card's line input.
Its the internal sound on the GX270 Dell's motherboard.

I did verify that when Ices is running, I get a "device busy" error starting
"rec". So ices is indeed going for /dev/dsp. Using the same OSS
config dfrey is.
Thanks, Ray |

Ray,
I tried to hookup headphones to the line out. No luck...still just broadcasting silence and no output on the headphones.

Hi
Did you resolve this issue? I have exactly the same problem on Atmel avr32 platform. |
