I have set up a stream with ices 0.4 and icecast 2.
There seems to be a problem with sending the titles of some songs,
while other songs are sent correctly.

I have checked the files, and they seems to be tagged correctly, so I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix this proble,

example of log file:

Code:

13/Oct/2007:00:05:24 +0200|/nonstop|1|Rammstein - Amerika
13/Oct/2007:00:09:12 +0200|/nonstop|1|˙ūA - ˙ūH

ID3v1 vs. ID3v2? Non-english letters? Maybe that's a problem? Also check if tag is put at the beginning or near end of file.

After looking at the files with an hex editor, and looking at the settings in my tagging software (IDv1 charset = Latin1 / IDv2 Chatset = Unicode (UTF-16), and lookig at the id3.c source file, it appears ices 0.4 doesn't support UTF-16 encoded tags.

Since UTF-16 had \0 in it's encoding, and it's processed as a null terminated string.

I think I will hack the code and force it to read the ID3v1 tags for now, but still it doesn't solve the problem that UTF-16 encoded tags are not supported.

With trunk and my branch releases you can specify a charset of utf16 in the <mount> section, that way the metadata is translated to utf8

Have the same problem in ices0 with proper reading titles of ID3 tags
And this seems to have no deal with international letters

buggy title (russian letters in id3v2 tag)

DEBUG: ID3v1: Title: Ты для меня (original new rock)

DEBUG: ID3v2: version 3.0. Tag size is 1784 bytes.
DEBUG: ID3v2: Title found: яю"K

Mounted on http://localhost:8000/main[autodj]

DEBUG: Updated metadata on /main[autodj] to: яюL - яю"K

proper title (have russian letters in id3v2 too):

DEBUG: ID3v1: Title: Город Обмана
DEBUG: ID3v1: Artist: Елка
DEBUG: ID3v2: version 3.0. Tag size is 4086 bytes.

DEBUG: Error Protection: 0 Emphasis: 0 Padding: 0
Playing Елка_-_02_-_Город_Обмана.mp3
DEBUG: Updated metadata on /main[autodj] to: Елка - Город Обмана

buggy title (have only english letters):

DEBUG: ID3v1: Title: Note To Self #1
DEBUG: ID3v1: Artist: Benjamin Bates
DEBUG: ID3v2: version 3.0. Tag size is 1828 bytes.
DEBUG: ID3v2: Artist found: яюB

Playing Benjamin_Bates-Recyclomania-2007/01. Note To Self N1.mp3
DEBUG: Updated metadata on /main[autodj] to: яюB - яюN

All titles in this files handled properly with winamp, foobar and WMP.

I can't comment on the ices 0.x handling of ID3 but if ices is sending the characters unaltered then you'll need to specify the character set in icecast as I've already indicated. You haven't said what the character set your system assumes but I suspect that if I connect to the stream then it won't look right here.

We using charset cp1251 in icecast mountpoint (and have the same in tags too). It shows garbage instead of russian letters if any other charset (or none) specified.

But regarding correct titles displaying in icecast, it reports the same "яюB", "яюN" mysterious titles. Our listeners kidding, that they must go and buy an album of great and popular band "яюB", there are so many their tracks on radio =)

And this problem with ices0 only (not icecast) because all other source clients works with russian titles perfectly.
