Hi,
I am trying to create an own Thecno & Trance internet radio with icecast.
Well, it didn't work so well, thought all that tryes.
Is it possible to upload some files, to a normal webhosting company like freehostia.com, purgehosting.com or xzorbix.com?
Even thought you dont own the servers, only have a webbhosting account.
P.s Sorry for my bad english. |

We can only answer questions relating to icecast, any queries about what a web hosting company will allow to be hosted on their server is between you and them, we cannot really comment on it.

true...
but as far as i know you can't access files on a other server than the icecast server is installed to do on demand streaming.
only if you have a source client running on a computer you have access and is getting the files from the external source and stream it to your icecast server.
something like peer-to-peer program getting your sound from p2p users and streaming it directly into icecast whould be a nice project.... there may be some on the net.... but you have to search.

ok now i get it.
no it is not possible to install icecast if you don't have root / administrator access to the server.
it is a installation procedure like every other program.

It is possible to install as a non-root user but the procedure is not as straight forward and I'm guessing from the 'browser navigation' comment that it's not something you would want to try.
