Hi,
I have been playing around with icecast on a spare PC with Linux installed on it, to get the feel on how to use it.
I am getting to the stage where I need to install it on a real server out there on the internet.
There are so many host providers to choose from, I don't really know where to start. There is Virtual Private Host Rental, there is Dedicated Server Rental etc. etc.
Please could anyone who sees that and has the time just let me know who you are with, what country the host/server is in, how much it cost to set up, how much the monthly rental is, what bandwidth (per sec or per month) you have and what the peak number of simultaneous listeners you have been able to achieve.
If I was going down the Dedicated Server Rental route, then I think I'm looking at the following spec, so cater for 100 simultaneous listeners:
50 GigaByte logical disc space with fault tolerant RAID
512MB RAM
2GHz x86 CPU
12.5Mbits/sec internet bandwidth (approx 1 Terabit per day), also needs to be easily increased to say 50Mbits/sec and 100Mbits/sec
1 Fixed, public IP address
Hardware firewall
Ability to install CentOS Linux Operating System
The ability to make a remote connection to the server's iLO port.
24/7 Support + hand and eyes
Many thanks in advance, I would really appreciate any experiences anyone has had, as I've never had to choose a provider for this type of service. |
