I'm a newbie lost in space.
I've to use icecast as a radio: one central server with a speaker and some listeners.
I've also to allow remote speakers sometimes... is it possible?
I looked the docs but i'm lost.

Thanks for your help

I am a little confused about what you actually want to do. But I am going to suppose that you mean that you want one computer where you listen to music via some player (xmms, winamp, etc) and then sometimes you wish to hear this music at other places (or want to let other people around the net listen to it).

What you then need is:
* Icecast 2 server - obviously needed if you want your music to be heard anywhere else.
* Sourceclient - There are several depending on what you need. For ogg/vorbis I recommend ices2 or oddcast, and for mp3 (which I don't recommend) you could use liveice or oddcast as well.

Configure your sourceclient to listen to your soundcard. What you also need to remember here is to set your mixer correctly so that you have the correct capture device selected (usually pcm, wav, or similar). That should be all. Hope that helps...

Seems like you are required to live stream from someone talking, to be heard at several other places, [unicast] to [multicast]..
but there are also [unicasts] from others talking at seperate locations?

There ought to be some way to describe these networks..

might help..
