Icecast Streaming Media Server

how do i get the icecast server to see the 'net? it can see local but not 'net and i have port 8000 open on the firewall (both tcp and udp)

you need to understand that clients connect to icecast not the other way round. If you have a NAT setup then you need to port forward the TCP port to the internal machine.

that's what i did. still nothing i have port 8000 and 8001 forwarded and windows firewall off.

you have to check your network, this is not really an icecast question. A simple browser request from outside should be able to request the main page from icecast using the port. You need to see whether the request is getting to the NAT and if it is being forwarded to the correct machine. If you can see it from the LAN then you know it's not the machine that icecast is on.

as stated before, the port is open. i don't know why this isn't working. i have my external ip listed but it's not working!

this is impossible to set up and it shouldn't be.

You have your external ip listed where? if you mean in icecast then it won't matter if the requests are not reaching the machine. You have to ask network related questions first. Are the external http requests getting to the icecast machine? Are LAN requests being dealt with. Unless you start resolving those then how do you expect to resolve whatever problem you have.

but i even did a DMZ test and still nothing.

meaning something on the icecast server is mis configured what i don't know

If Lan requests are ok then icecast is talking to the lan without problem. if Lan requests are not responding then it's probably down to something like an incorrect bind-address.

the real IP in <hostname> is fine, no other place in the xml requires it. The Obviously any NAT setup will need to forward requests from it but that is outside of of icecasts control.
