So the other day I'm online chatting with a buddy and he enters a link in the chat window. I click on it and suddenly I'm listening to the music he's got cued up in winamp. Needless to say I thought that was cool and wanted to check it out. I'm reading through all the posts and it all seems a bit over my head. I don't think I'm wanting to do anything too complicated--I just want to be able to have my chat buddies listen to my music. Can anyone guide me through this process i.e. tell me what all I need to download, what to do from there...pretty much everything but hold my hand. Got the shoutcast dsp plugin and installed it. I also downloaded and installed Icecast. I have no I dea where to go from here. I only want to broadcast to one person at a time. Do I need to find a server? Can I be a server if I just want a chat buddy to hear what I'm listening too?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Baphomet1307,
Shoutcast DSP plugin will not work for icecast. Try the sam encoder broadcasting plugin for winamp here: http://www.spacialaudio.com/products/winamp/
At start this stuff was also confusing for me, and now it is very hard to explain, and I'm not lying. You have to broadcast from winamp (plugin) to icecast server on your computer which sends the music to your listener.
Hope this helps,
Phillip. |

The shoutcast DSP plugin will work with icecast2, you do this by having icecast xml state 2 sequential ports, the higher one being shoutcast-compat. Only one shoutcast DSP can connect but it does work.
