I heard on the barix site that the instreamer can stream/send to an icecast server. (for those who don't know the barix instreamer/extreamer is ip based audio encoder/decoder... eliminating the need for a pc)
A client of mine has a local 100 watt radio station he ants audio online with. I have set up my uncles radio station with a full ubuntu icecast setup, and the clients connect to the in house computer via the station site (sitegrounds).
Now for this new station he has barix boxes. He uses one to send audio from his house (station is run at) to his transmitter site. It decodes with the barix decoder and goes to the antenna. The encoder can send multiple signals out.
Now the question is... can the barix instreamer send audio STRAIGHT to the icecast server, or does the audio STILL have to pass through the encoder (i use darkice) and then to icecast? |

Without details of what the Barix box can do, it's hard to say. Do you have a PDF with specs or anything?

The Barix Encoder can stream directly to an Icecast server and to his exstreamer as well.
I have several doing this now. |

I forgot to update you guys. They did finally call back, and they told me the same thing schj98 says. The barix boxes eliminates the need for a computer. If you're anticipating alot of users and need a host, it's cheaper and easier to just buy a barix box and send it to the host, than buying a computer, installing linux, and then installing an encoder like darkice.
And on top of that if you lose power the barix would come right back up and you don't have to wait for booting/loading the os time... oh and corrupting files also. |

i am just about to test the barix instreamer 100, it is really small and exactly what like to have as a streaming client.
but.... the icecast source client is as far as i see built for icecast 1.3
i try to contact barix... maybe they have already a client for icecast 2.
one nice thing is they deliver a development kit where you can write your own audio application running on the barix boxes.
you can easy deploy your own apps there.... but no icecast2 client, someone has to programm this.
is there a lot of tasks to do when i want to modify a icecast 1 client to a icecast 2 one?
... i'll keep you informed about my experiences here.

ok. i was too fast with my assumption.
i just received a mail from the support, which i sent yesterday so the support seems to be fast as well.
i missed the password section on the instreamer 100 webinterface.
every thing works well with icecast 2 and for the moment i am really happy with this tool!
