I have my server setup, it's streaming and everything is going well. I have a few DJ's connecting trying to stream but every once in a while the radio station will skip.

During these intermittent skips I have checked the number of listeners, usually very low along with the server load and free swap (both checkout great). I am assuming that it's due to the connection of the DJ and not the server or Icecast itself.

Are there any generic fixes for skipping? Or perhaps a way to buffer the upload of the DJ just in case the connection drops out or is slow?

The question is too vague to give any pointers, but the burst size setting should be all you need. If there are skips in the source client then icecast can't do much about that. If you are sure the network links are not a problem and that the stream settings are valid then look to the source client to see if there is a problem with timing, maybe the CPU becomes max'd out there.

I believe that the settings of the stream are configured correctly. There are times when the stream is perfect, clear with no skips at all. However, it seems that at times the stream just starts skipping. As aforementioned, i've checked the CPU usage and load on the server itself and everything seems fine. So this leads me to believe that the source is the problem. Are there any recommendations on how to test the source client?

speaking generally is not going to help much, obviously check to see if the processor running the source client is saturate, if it is then the source client won't be getting the work done. I would say find out which source client is being used and how it is being used. As an example from my own experience, I've seen issues when pulseaudio was used (causing mini stalls) but native alsa was fine.
