Hi,
There is steaming media called Broccoli TV- they play all 80's videos.. the slogan they use is MTV, the way it used to be, All Music All the time.. to give you an example what i'm talking about.
I have a SecondLife Account as well as Accounts with other virtual world grids run by the Opensim software. This is like the software used by SecondLife on the server side. Opensim lets me have my own virtual world with people in it.. to give you the short short version..just in case you didn't know...
Broccoli streams audio and video from the address broccoli-tv.com as well as other places on the internet.
What I want to do is, stream this audio into my SeconLife, or rather my OpenSim run virtual world.
Is this possible to do with Icecast? If it is, how? Please just don't tell me yes i can do it.. if your gonna bother to answer this, please give me details on how to do this. otherwise, i will just have to ask for clarification and this thread will look silly.
I do not have a server, Just my own home PC. So if i need another server to do this, you will have to tell me about that also.
I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible.. free would be best.
Thank You

To support anything over 2 or 3 users, you're going to need a server. You're going to need to research that on your own, and you will not be able to do it for free.
I haven't tested icecast mounts in opensim/secondlife, although I know that shoutcast works no problem.
I would imagine that Icecast would allow this, although you'd need to check the opensim API and see what it allows for with media streams hooked in to the game world. (Shoutcast mounts usually have a playlist file for connection; http://ip:port/listen.pls, although SL/Opensim only require http://ip:port - so it may be that you could get icecast to work using an alias of some kind)
No one is going to tell you how to do what you want for free, all the information you need is available using google, the icecast documentation, and the opensim API.
I'd be happy to look at this more closely for you, but I would be looking for some form of compensation for my work. _________________ willwh @ irc.freenode.net, #icecast

Hi!
Just like the previous poster as stated; you're *NOT* going to do this for free and especially not with any amount of quality or apprecable counts of listeners..
I CAN tell you that icecast WILL work with SL, but NONE of the internal scripts can read Icecast nor can they log into the http/auth admin page.. this means that SLX boards and the like will NOT display or even function with Icecast.. (in short, everything in SL is written for DNAS, not Icecast) I plan to write a "info board" that will read my Icecast server, but more- that my Icecast server is read by an eggdrop (bot) and that parses the info and displays it to a txt file which SL can easily read off my website.. this is completely CUSTOM and will not/can not work anywhere else..
I hope this helps, though discouraging.. sorry, but its the truth.
