Thank you for any help, I have spent a few days trying to learn and have made progress but now I am stuck. Our application is simple, a Icecast server with one MountPoint to support our police and fire scanners. The end users would be no more than 10 listeners.

Configuration;
WinXP
Icecast runs with no errors.
Can run OddcastV3 and feed audio.
Set the router up to allow port 8000 on the local ip address Icecast and Oddcast are running on.
Netstat shows port 8000 is running (when icecast is started)

We can login to the local port eg, 192.168.1.108 and access Icecast2 Admin pages. http://192.168.1.108:8000/admin/
I can see the MountPoint we are feeding "/scanner"

When attempting to access from another machine using;
http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8000/scanner.m3u
where xx... is our fixed cable ip address,
error is address not found.

Same error when trying to access from workstations on our local network using;
http://192.168.1.108:8000/scanner.m3u

When accessing from a browser window on the machine running Icecast and Oddcast it does open but ends up in a loop that keeps replaying and getting louder. Not useful but thought it may help in identifying our problem.

Third party utility's show port8000 is timing out. We used http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/

I found this step by step training useful

This graphic helped the "light bulb" come on.

Also the Installation and Management guide. http://www.gnuware.com/icecast/

I hope these items help others that may be lost and looking to learn.

Any advise is appreciated, I can provide further details if needed.

The problem sounds like a simple port forwarding not configured on the router/NAT box. I would recheck those details and make sure that another LAN machine can access the icecast as that would prove whether a firewall is blocking access on the server.

Yes I did try that, but recall in my testing turning off the firewall as a test. I tried to connect on the local network and had the same error. The machine I am testing on is a WinXP machine, so I went to Control Panel, Network Connections and went to properties in the general tab. Turned off the firewall. It now works on the LAN! Both the admin screen and a stream.

Testing over the internet back to our ip http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8000/scanner.m3u where xx... is our fixed cable ip address, still get error is address not found.

Running a linksys router, under the applications and gaming tab (Port Range Forward) I have set the port Range to Start "8000 to 8001" protocal "both" ip address "192.168.1.108" the IP address of our test machine and selected "enable"

The security tab is at the default, "block anonymous internet requests" is not selected.

Should other settings be changed?

Thanks again for all the help, progress feels good. I hope my descriptions can help others that may run into the same stumbling blocks.

For some reason after extensive testing I have found that the Win98 machine we were using as a server is not reliable as a Icecast server. (we were just trying to use a machine that had no other use right now)

While Icecast always starts up, over our LAN the admin screen is not accessible. This is not reliably reproducible, so I can not offer further information. About one out of every 10 times (machine restart) we can see the server over the LAN. This was of course misdirecting our testing efforts.

Now we can reliably bring up the Icecast server on a XP machine. We can reliably connect to the admin console over the LAN. This can be repeated without fail so we now have a stable starting point.

We have installed a new Router.
Set up the Port forwarding for "Start 8000 End 8001" protocol "both" ip address "192.168.7.100" and "enable" is selected.
We have setup exceptions on the XP machine windows firewall to open port 8000, set to any computer, including those on the internet.

192.169.7.100:8000 brings up the admin screen every time.

When connecting to xx.xxx.xxx.xx:8000 from another machine (through another wan) the connection times out. We never are presented the admin screen. (xx.xxx.xxx.xx is the DSL IP address the router is connected to)

Can anyone guide me on what to test next or change to make some progress. Thank you very much to anyone that can help.

We found the problem with "port blocking" the DSL modem Westell 2200 and the Router were not properly bridged. So the modem still had control of the port forwarding. Even though it was set for no blocking.

Once we properly bridged the two and took the modem control out of the picture it was one keystroke to the admin screen and the stream was online with no effort. Embarassed

Oddly all other use functioned fine, as it related to browsing even though they were not bridged.
