Hi, i've got a little problem with the <intro> tag, i added it to icecast.xml, and it works fine generally, only thing is that it doesnt seem to work with all players, i tested with VLC and it works fine, but in iTunes i hear the welcome sound and the stream doesn't start to play after the sound.

on the server i see no errors, on the client i get:
[0x0-0x21021].com.apple.iTunes[219]: execution error: iTunes got an error: Can’t get location of URL track id 66280 of user playlist id 51706 of source id 43. (-1728)

strange thing is my mountpoint is "/stream" when i use /stream music starts playing for about 0,2 secs and stops, when i use /stream.m3u it doesnt play at all

btw does /stream and /stream.m3u make any difference on the client?

my system

icecast 2.3.1 on debian
streaming source: nicecast on OSX
(all works fine without <intro>)

it would be really nice to use the intro feature, but with limited clients it is a bit of a problem...

thanks for any help!

for non-ogg streams, the big issue is keeping the format the same, no bitrate/samplerate/channel changes between the intro and stream. Obviously 2.3.2 will be better to use.

whether you supply a playlist (m3u) or stream url to the player is actually dependent on the player, but they typically accept m3u without issue.

karl.

T H A N K S !! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I could have searched hours and would not have found this, the intro mp3 was mono and the stream stereo, i only looked at the bitrate first which was the same.

Works fine on all players i can test right now!

Now i have to find a way to alter the file while icecast is running, the intro should announce the show actually running, i think i will do that via a symlink and cronjobs, i hope icecast doesn't cache the intro file (allthough it would be faster).
