Newbie so be gentle, I am researching this but thought I would post it up anyway. Can it handle a few no problem? Do I need use different ports for each one?

there are sites with several hundred streams on a single icecast, so it depends on what you mean by a few. native icecast connections can be on a single port for all streams, but if you intend to use shoutcast compatible source clients then those need 2 ports per source client.

only three or so. What way do I need to edit the text file, or just edit the instances of edcast? The icecast I have running, thats just for me yeah? Its not public anywhere?

each stream needs the mountpoint to be unique, so make the mountpoint unique, think /high.ogg and /low.ogg as examples.

and just to confirm, only I can log onto them on my LAN, they dont go any where else

if you mean does icecast push the streams anywhere else then no. It won't even advertise it on the directories unless you specifically define them in the xml. whether you allow anyone external to your LAN to connect to icecast is up to you.
