Icecast Streaming Media Server

For years, I ave enjoyed using Icecast along with libshout and other modules to connect my streaming hardware to the listeners on the net using FBSD...

but recently, I have had to switch to a new host (DreamHost), and they don't allow an OS change from Debian linux to FBSD.. even on dedicated servers (which tells me they aren't truely dedicated.. another discussion for a different time)

So, I'm STUCK with Debian "squeeze" Linux

the problem is I need p5-Shout and I CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING for Debian Linux for p5 Shout.. I have spend 2 DAYS trying to import libs and crap.. and have gotten NOWHERE... Google comes up with NOTHING.. and to make thing even further complecated, it seems to matter what CPU and RAM and brand of CPU and type of motherboard the server has based on the version of linux too.. thats DUMB! FBSD was NOTHING like this!

I don't know this Linux crap at all... FBSD? no problem I have Icecast up and running WITH libshout in minutes.. but, Linux? ITS STUPID!

withotu p5 Shout, I can not connect my hardware encoders to the icecast server.. this makes everything USELESS!

any help and/or suggestions would help!

We don't have control of third party apps. You should not have an issue with libshout library (may require the dev package) but this app looks to be perl.

It's not clear what problem you are having exactly, is it just that the developers have not packaged it for debian so you are not sure of what the dependencies are? if so what is it complaining about.

Hi Karl, long time no speak.. I hope you're doing well!

the problem was the perl glue works wans't right (so I was told)

ended up installing the dev version of perl 5 to fix the problem.. I had an "linux-pert" fix the problem and I moved on..

its all working fine now! unfortunately i couldn't tell you exlactly what they did to fix it except him installing the dev version of perl

(I was told, once, thats its a BAD idea to install dev tools on end-user systems due to their tendency to be exploited)

which leads me to my next question.. but I'll post a new thread for it...
