Icecast Streaming Media Server

Hello Guys

Just recently i installed Oddvcast and icecast streaming mp3 and ogg at work ( radio station). However when i m logged in the network at the radio station and i run win player with the link address, i get connected, but when i get out of the network and log from home or outside, i can't get connected.

Question: 1) do I need to run icecast outside the network? with a static IP?
right now is connected behind a linksys network.
2) Or this is a matter of firewall? Any suggestions?

If you are behind a router then you will need to allow the connections through to icecast. If you are behind a NAT (ie 192.168.x.x.) then you need to configure port forwarding on the router to send them to the internal IP that icecast is on.

I'm having this same problem, I've set the port forward on my router. I can now listen to my stream either by localhost:8001 or 192.168.0.6:8001 but how do I get it so the www can pick the stream up???

if you have confirmed that packets are being forwarded to the 192.168.x.x address then it could be a firewall on the 192.168.0.6 machine blocking port 8001.

As far as I can see nothing is blocking port 8001. What address should be given to people to connect to?

for listeners, the external IP or DNS name and the port you forward from the NAT box (usually the same as used internally but not required)

yes. The default setup should allow for http://ip:8001/ to get the status page. Assuming the forwarding and firewall is set up.
