Icecast Streaming Media Server

I've been using Icecast for sometime, and today I discovered that my stream is no longer live. It certainly used to be! As far as I know my setup hasn't changed.

I have version 2.3.2. My http://localhost:8001/ admin page seems to be working fine & gives me a stream url with an ip address. I have a link like so: http://xx.xx.xx.xxx:8001/stream.m3u
I use winamp & edcast & they seem to be connected to the icecast server program, output of 128 Kbps.

I've checked the stream link for typos. When I try to access the stream on a different computer (that uses a different isp to get it's internet access), I hear nothing.

Is there a setting someplace that I've missed? I notice that my ip address (when I look it up at what's my ip) doesn't match my stream url address as listed on my Icecast admin page. Is that my problem?

Troubleshooting over the last several hours:

Perhaps my ip address changed without my knowledge? I've tried browsing to http://mynewip:8001/stream.m3u on a computer that's not on my local isp, without any luck.

Even odder, I can't seem to find any logs for icecast. Tried searching my computer for error.log & got a bunch of emails (because I subscribe to the Icecast email newsletter), but no files. I have a windows machine, & am running as administrator. I also checked the logs folder to see if there were any hidden files- nothing.

I've noticed that my source level stats have plenty of total bytes read, but zero total bytes sent.

I'm still in a situation where, as far as I can tell, the stream is going out into the world, but I don't seem to be able to figure out what address to browse to in order to access it.

Oh, and I've checked my router. The ip does seem to be static and the correct port is being forwarded. Could there be some password problem here? My edcast settings call for a password, but I'm not sure what that password unlocks, exactly.

obviously not much to go on as we do not have any real information about your setup. Always check if the xsl pages are returned first, local LAN first then external. If say an internal IP has changed (192.168.x.x) then the forwarding and LAN access will not work even for web pages. In such cases you can usually reserve an IP for a certain MAC in the router.

Okay- what else do you need to know?

I can browse to http://localhost:8001 and get the Icecast2 Status page (ie the xml page, right?). However I cannot use another computer at another location to browse to http://**myip**:8001 and get that same Icecast2 Status page.

apologies: xsl not xml. And the ip i'm using in the case of **myip** is the one I get when I look up my address at http://whatsmyip.net

The router is using 10.1.10.10. As I understand it anyhow, that would be what you're referring to when you say 'internal ip'?

Usually, routers are NAT boxes so the internal addresses are private, 192.168.x.x are common but 10.x.x.x is also private. If the machine running icecast has a different IP allocated from the router via DHCP but the original forwarding IP has not changed then external requests will not get to the correct address. Check the forwarding address on the router and the internal IP of the server, they should match

Aaaand I fixed it. The router had two ports being forwarded. As soon as I deleted the one that didn't match the internal ip the stream instantly came though. Thanks again for your logical help!
