I'm wondering if there's a way to send out a single stream (as source) to the server (eg 64kbps) and have something on the server transcode it to lower bitrates as well (eg 32 and 48 ). Basically, split it into multiple streams at various bitrates, example : 64 (high quality), 48 (middle quality), 32 (low).

Any ideas ?

I believe MuSE can accomplish that. I haven't tried it personally.

I used a different piece of software to do it in the past, but I can't recall the name.

actually, I have done this with using the "Stream Transcoder" utility..

(I'll be doing this very thing once again as soon as I can get my source and clients to connect to the icecast system)

then my memory can be refreshed and perhaps I can help you. Smile
