Hi,

I want to get a hosting plan but I don't which one to choose.

Is streammonster.com a good choice?

Prices so much varied from a host to another.

For example, for the same thing (100 listeners, 64 kbps) :
$5,95 at stream monster
$46 at streamsolutions
$125 at fastserv

Why do different?

What do you recommend?

I can't comment on providers but it may be dependent on the service they provide, access to server or even overselling of bandwidth, locations etc?

I'm paying $10 US a month for max 50 listeners @ 128kbs stereo and Centova Cast. It also comes with 5gb of web space and CPanel.

However I'm at my wits end due to the lack of service. So would also like to know if anyone reading has any recommendations.

For comparison, I had Amazon EC2 quote what I'd need to match the above and manage it myself and they said circa $80 per month.

I feel like I'm getting a good price but I wouldn't recommend my current host to anyone wanting anything looked at.

Web has zero support, in fact they gave up half way through a restore after an attack leaving me in disarray. Audio isn't much better. But it might suit someone for a project stream.

Some pretty good reasonable pricing for Icecast streaming.

Just an update from me.

I have been trialling Stream Monster for 5 days. I haven't fully tested audio or network consistency yet but here is my experience so far...

They have Centova Cast which is standard for most hosts I guess. For those that don't know it's a web based UI panel that manages your Icecast config, along with some useful reporting, which includes Google maps integrated geostats on listeners IP addresses. It's a 3rd party product.

An interesting thing happened when I streamed two sources to /autodj and /live. All icecast and centova cast stats broke. Centova told me no source was connected, although I could listen to either. I thought this might be because the trial account was limited to 3 listeners, which I think might actually stretch to a trial source limitation. This brings me to my next point...

My main reason for trialling them was to assess their support. Unfortunately, none of the 3 tickets I raised four days ago were satisfactorily responded to.

Of two that were answered, I asked multiple questions and got short half line answers ignoring certain questions.

My fault I guess for trialling a host that was cheaper than my current, poorly serviced host;)

Oh well, at least it's only a trial.
