I've got a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise machine that is running 2.3.3-KH2 of IceCast. I wanted to rotate the logs, so I stopped the service, changed the names of the access and error log files, and then tried to start the service again. I get the error

"Windows could not start the IceCast 2.3.3-kh2 Streaming Media Server services on local server

Error 0xffffffff: 0xffffffff"

In the event logs I see

"The IceCast 2.3.3-kh2 Streaming Media Server service terminated with the following error:

%%-1"

Any idea what the problem could be? It's been sitting and working rather happily for months now when suddenly this happens. I'm about ready to save the configuration, uninstall, re-install and copy the config back.

Solved my own problem. I suddenly remembered that one can run icecast.exe rather than the service and get console output including errors. Turns out I had a syntax error in the config file that was dormant until the service was reloaded. (As a side note, I always go to the web interface, reload the config, and look at the return code after a change, so I guess this was the one time that I failed to do that and don't remember.)

The output of the console was enough to help me track it down - a simple missing /. Huzzah.
