i curently have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and DD-WRT V23 firmware installed.

You need to setup your router to forward port 8000 to the computer with the icecast running.

Say your computer with icecast has an IP of 192.168.0.2
You need to tell your router what to do with port 8000.
You want it sent to the computer on IP 192.168.0.2

You may also find that your ISP is blocking port 8000. I didn't do my home work and found that port 8080 is blocked by my ISP. I never made the connection, and ended up doing useless things and wasting a week only to find that was the problem.

check http://www.portforward.com/ on how to setup your router.. or check linksys' website.

On my Linksys router, you go to
Applications and Security,
Port range forwarding,
and enter the Port range,
the IP of the hosting computer (in this example its 192.168.0.2)
and click enable.

now if you want to take it one step further, you can assign that IP address to that particular computer, so that 192.168.0.2 NEVER gets assigned to another computer, giving you a headache.
