Some Onkyo receivers have a feature called nettune, which basically means that they can play mp3/wmv streams from the network. There is a server application that can be downloaded from Onkyo website called Nettune Central, however it is a windows application with numerous limitations. I was wondering whether anyone attempted to use icecast to serve mp3 files to this particular receiver and be successful. It should theoretically work, right? If not, do you think icecast can be tweaked to meet the prerequisities of nettune?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

You'd have to investigate what protocol it uses to serve streams to the receiver.

If it's http, or something similar, then it should be possible to get icecast to do this.

AFAIK it uses http. I just don't know how the client authenticates with the server, etc. Is there a way to figure the communication between the client (receiver) and the server (in this case icecast)? Do I need to use a "http sniffer"? If yes how can I obtain it?

Thanks

I figured that Onkyo receiver uses NTSP protocol rather than http. I am not familiar with this protocol but I am thinking that this must be a microsoft propriarity thing. Is there a way to make icecast server to support this protocol at all?

I used ices04 along with icecast to streamcast my audio over my home network and it is working without problems otherwise. The only problem is the receiver not recognizing this streamcast because it is http and not NTSP, I believe.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
