hi,
i have a very big server load problem.
I have dedicated server Pentium 4 2.4Ghz(256MB RAM). Box is connected to 1 Gig switch.
I stream at 128 kbps and have about 1200 listeners. CPU load at this point is 100% (only 120 MB of RAM is used at the same point) and no more users can connect (it starts buffering and they disconnect).
OS is Windows XP + Icecast 2.3.1
Icecast logs are ok - no errors.
Any suggestions?

CPU load should be small, but at 128kbps, 1200 listeners is over 150Mbps. Can you sustain that bitrate without problems? Is there some point (less than 1200) when it starts becoming a problem?

Hi karlH,

No bandwidth is not a problem - i made test pushing well over 200 mbps.
It starts buffering only then CPu load reaches 100%. Then server has ~800 listeners CPU is 60-80% load. I looked at process table and i see that load is created by Icecast.
Maybe i should try to install other icecast version? That do you think me installing icecast2_win32_v2.3.1-kh6f_setup.exe ????

You can certainly try. In theory there should not be a vast performance difference but at the moment we don't know what exactly is causing the loading in your situation.

Tried to install, but did not helped .... i think were was windows problem, because after reinstall it's ok.
On older windows were was antivirus installed, so maybe it was scanning every network packet streamed? because now CPU load is minimal.
