Icecast Streaming Media Server

Is it because my connection is in LAN? And if so is there's anyway I could make it work. Please help.. thanks.

If it's your LAN, then either you or your network adminstrator need to allow external connections to get to the icecast machine and back out. A common setup is to enable portforwarding on the router/gateway but whether that applies to you is unknown.

I too am using a LAN workstation (WinXP2) with NI Traktor DJ 2.6.1, but through using No-IP I've managed, so far, to see my station in the YP listings.

When I click on the link, however, my player comes up, then loses connection. I've tried changing port numbers (currently using 8004) and using two ports at once (8003/8004). I've also tried changing the local host name and the bind adress. As far as I know I have opened the relevant ports on my router/gateway. Now I'm completely baffled. What have I/am I doing wrong?

Your url reference is wrong, I think you meant http://mamalove.zapto.org:8004/mamalove.ogg

Also try updating the vorbis encoder as well, it's currently 1.0.1

Thx Karl, yes you're right I gave an incorrect url. It IS http://mamalove.zapto.org/mamalove.ogg

I forgot also to mention that my application (NI Traktor DJ 2.6.1) claims to stream mp3s as ogg file. Mountpoint is /mamalove.ogg. Should this be /mamalove.mp3? If so, I have tried that route and get even more errors than .ogg extension?!

This is the error VLC gives when I click my url:

If this helps any, I'd be overjoyed. As to update the Vorbis encoder...I'm at a loss how or where do I get this and is it relevant to Traktor DJ or Icecast. As I stated in my earlier post I'm using XP2 setup on a LAN workstation.

You keep forgetting your port number in your url, you said 8004 in your other posting so I tried and it worked, plays an ogg stream without problem.

Try the following in your browser http://mamalove.zapto.org:8004/

The problem you have in vlc maybe a routing issue, it works fine here but if you port forward 8004 to some internal machine then you need to make sure that the internal machines also get to that same machine, you may need to use an internal IP/name

As for the vorbis encoder version, that will be the source client not icecast as the source client is responsible for the encoding of the stream. Also note that mp3 is not ogg so if you change encodings then change your mountpoint to suit, icecast itself doesn't care but some players will get confused if you name it .mp3 and then give ogg data.

Fair point @ port # missing in url. But I'm able to hear the stream on the intranet, but still no joy with url. When I click on the url, error reads:

"The connection has timed out
The server at mamalove.zapto.org is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I'm about to start pulling hair. As to the encoder issue again. I don't know how NI Traktor would allow me to update its encoder without updating the software and right now my pocket cannot stretch that far financially. Thx again for all your help in advance.

I'm still in puzzlement as to HOW you connected to my stream where I and a few others have failed. When I check my server status my listener peak is one and that's the other workstation I have here on the intranet. Please, please help me to comprehend what/where I've gone wrong.

According to the status page the peak is 2. The IP address I get is 82.45.217.246, so can you get to that IP port 8004?, you could try internal number but I have no idea what those are for you.. A connection time out is down to a network issue, maybe it's just that your NAT isn't sending your network connections back into the LAN.
