Icecast Streaming Media Server

I have some problems with the icecast 2.3.1 version and the installed directorys.

let me explain:

i downloaded the tar.gz icecast file from icecast.org - using suse 9.3 linux system.
unzip and untar the files to directory, the did a
./configure
I missed some files like libcrypto and liborg, but i fixed that by downloading and finally everything was good.
then i did a "make" and a "make install"

so far, so good )

I changed some things in the icecast.xml file, which is under
/usr/local/etc (like streamingport - but nothing great)

then i tried to start the server with
icecast -c /usr/local/etc/icecast.xml
(as user)
it didn't start up, and told me there is no directory
/usr/local/icecast/logs/
and no error.log and access.log files are in that directory

ok that was right, there was no such a directory there (?)
I tried to change the target of that 2 files in the icecast.xml
but there was only the name of that 2 files (access.og & error.log) but no path to /usr/local/icecast/logs/
then i tried to disable the logging part in the xml-file, no changes error at startup -> no startup.

ok then I created that directory
/usr/local/icecast/logs
manually and changed the ower of that to user ... so the icecast can write in that directory.

next try,
YES the server comes up )

i opend the webbrowser and tried to reach the icecast side
localhost:port

it tells me
Could not parse XSLT file

wow ... not good

then i opened the error.log file
under
/usr/local/icecast/logs


[2006-10-30 17:50:22] EROR xslt/xslt_transform problem reading stylesheet "/usr/local/icecast/webroot/status.xsl"


oha thats the problem, but there is NO
webroot directory under /usr/local/icecast (you remember i created that one for the log-files problem)

but where are alle the icecast files?
I found some under
/usr/local/share/icecast/web
/usr/local/share/icecast/admin
/usr/local/share/icecast/doc

but why are the under usr/local/share/icecast and not directly under /usr/local/icecast ?

do I have to copy them from the usr/local/share/icecast
to the /usr/local/icecast directory ?

got something wrong during the installtion ?

Sounds you have some things mixed up

But, as you use SuSE 9.3, why not adding suser-scorot repository to Yast and install RPM builds, which come with a standard palce configuration (/etc/icecast.xml) and all directories perfectly setup.

has all needed RPMs for your version, and, if you want to build from source, grab the .src.rpm and rebuild with rpmbuild

in the path section there were some paths not active

<logdir>/usr/local/icecast/logs</logdir>
<webroot>/usr/local/share/icecast/web</webroot>
<adminroot>/usr/local/share/icecast/admin</adminroot>

i changed the paths to the 3 above ones, now the server is running well - with darkice streaming from the soundcard line in

[jcr]

Sorry, I didn't remember this quirk on old Muse 9 builds. opensuse 10.1 comes with a fully ready to run install.
