Hello all,

I need a refresher, because I think I've read stuff on this before here but my efforts at searching the forum aren't finding it.

Running Icecast 2.3.1 on Fedora Core 4, being fed by ezstream 0.2.1. Compiled all from source, installed libshout etc. Everything is streaming fine, fallback and live streams are switching just fine, things on the server look great.

When switching from fallback to live stream, or stream to live fallback, Winamp stops playback. Pressing play again resumes the stream. I seem to remember that this is caused by the live stream and ezstream running at different encoding rates.

However, I have ezstream set to 96kbps in the ezstream.xml file, and the live streams on Icecast are 96kbps as well. The songs that ezstream is playing are encoded at 128kbps, but the docs for ezstream said that it did re-encoding, so I assumed that the 128kbps songs would be re-encoded by ezstream to 96kbps, and it should match up with the Icecast stream. But if that's the case, then Winamp should go from one to the other smoothly with no interruption. But that's not what I'm seeing.

Am I missing something here? Or am I misunderstanding the word "re-encoding" from ezstream's perspective?

boink

Still hoping someone can clarify this ezstream re-encoding thing. Does it re-encode or not? If it does, then what perhaps am I doing wrong? I thought it was just the bitrate I needed to set in ezstream.xml.
